Publications (selected)
“Under the digital flame, the engraving begins to boil.”
“This spatial conquest unfolds through an absolutely spectacular recurring iconography […]. A whole animal kingdom is trapped between Franz Kakfka, Gustav Meyrink and Jérôme Bosch.”
“The fusion of engraving and video mapping, exquisitely displayed across the space, works wonders in maintaining an exciting link to reality as much as evoking the backlighting of a collective imagination.”
Le Vif - Michel Verlinden (Belgique, 2017)
“The caustic aesthetics of a panic-inducing rebus.”
“A critical look at our techno-industrial society through these exquisite corpses with their dark sense of humour.”
“Humour and the absurd unite for better, and even more so, for worse. The big bad wolf may not be what he seems.”
“The trap is perfect. By introducing all this pseudo-data, Yannick Jacquet highlights the absurdity of taking statistically proven information at face value and denounces a society where information overload makes it unintelligible.”
“Off-the-wall, hybrid, and timeless. Phantasmatic, playful, and poetic. There is no shortage of words that could describe these atypical living frescos, which have been presented in ever-unique and wholly original configurations in the four corners of the world: from Shenzhen to Milan, via Jerusalem, Prague, and Montreal.”
La Libre - Gribaumont Gwennaëlle (Belgique, 2021)
“Who needs a perfectly balanced egg in the era of digital projection?”
“A magical installation combines Rube Goldberg with shadow puppets”
Fastcompany - Mark Wilson (USA, 2012)
“There is no designated route to follow as the temporality imposed upon us is more like that of a video game. That is how Mécaniques Discursives plays with the visual: no beginning, no end.”
“To tell, rather than read, stories, each of us will see a projection of ourselves based on our own experiences. Solving mysteries only leads to more questions that go beyond the work’s limits.”
In The Digital Age - Dominique Moulon (France, 2021)
“The installation is meticulously assembled like the mechanism of a fine watch. It follows a truly fictitious itinerary across the walls leading us round in circles. Is it a lab experiment or an interactive blueprint for a future city?.”
“It’s an unlikely alliance. Dreamt up by the wood engraver Fred Penelle and video artist Yannick Jacquet, the installation occupies an intermediary space between Marcel Duchamp’s The Large Glass and a ghost train. Aesthetically? Black and white. Lots of graphics. An intense sonorous experience that can be dismantled. What does it all mean? Derision and cruelty.”
Artension magazine - Marie Girault (France, 2014)
“Images from pop culture, medieval iconography, current affairs magazines, and encyclopaedic plates are plunged into a flowing stream of arrows, graphic symbols, and dotted lines”.
“The exhibition immerses the visitor in a space that exists outside of time. This space becomes the setting for a work whose media we cannot completely grasp, and whose slivery moonlight bathes the installations as part of its seductive power”.
“The arrows and the nervous system that link together each element are only dead ends. There is no hidden meaning, but rather multiple semantic references, like in a game of exquisite corpses”.
